Welcome
to the website of the
Evangelical
Lutheran Church of The Gambia (ELCTG)
We the members
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Gambia, redeemed by
grace through faith and empowered by the Holy Spirit, seek to
proclaim the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word, deed
and loving service to all people in the world around us.

The mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Gambia is
to serve as instruments of the Holy Spirit in response to the
commission of its Lord and in accordance with various gifts and
talents of its members, especially to proclaim the truth of the
Gospel of Jesus through Word and Sacraments so as to gather in
love and fellowship all who respond in faith and deed.
Transformed by the power of Gods love, we seek to help equip
men and women in the Gambia for work in the world as persons trying
to love God by serving each others neighbour.

A
Baptism
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Gambia (ELCTG) was founded
in 1999 by Samuel Thomas and a group of indigenous lay Christians.
These were persons who had been in contact with Lutheranism while
away from the country and wished to establish a Lutheran presence
in The Gambia. The church was officially recognized by the government
in the same year.
Geographically, the church is divided along the five administrative
Divisions of the Gambia (Banjul) and three Regions: North Bank,
Kombo Saint Marys, North Bank, Lower River Division, Central
River Division and upper River Division. Lack of ordained ministers
and Evangelists to lead the church has been a problem. Yet with
the current membership about 2,000, the church has maintained
a dynamic presence, encouraging educational programs especially
in the area of Early Child Education.
