1. Early Child Development (Education)

Our church has worked hard to make our presence felt in the country by the establishment of our major early child development centre at Kembuje in the Western Division of The Gambia. This is known as D.G. Williams Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Education Centre.

We have three voluntary staff teaching in the school. This has attracted the Belgium State Early Child Development Programme. They sometimes send voluntary personnel to teach in our school. May God be blessed.

2. Outreach Programs of our Church: Evangelism

Our church in the Gambia, despite being small and lacking ordained personnel and support, has voted to implement a Senegambia outreach strategy to finish the work of proclaiming the gospel of Christ in the Gambia.

General Objectives

  • Spiritual Nurture
  • Soul-winning and community outreach
  • Education and training of leaders, workers and lay men and women.
  • To reach all unreached people groups in the Gambia by 2010.

Strategy

  • Revival and reformation of the church that it may be more sound in doctrine.
  • Evangelism to enter and establish communications into five new people group areas yearly in the Gambia.
  • Train pioneers to serve the church in their capacities.
  • Seek support for evangelism and leadership training

Present Evangelistic Strategy

Although we at present lack support for our programs in the Gambia, the Lord gives us unity, wisdom and strength. The church is active in :

  • Public Evangelism: Members of the church always gather together in prayers in the cities and urban centers.
  • Children's Ministry: This is another important strategy which has been used to teach children of our membership and incoming children through evangelism for baptismal classes.

3. Hospital Ministry

As we remember the sick in prayers, both men and women are active in visiting various hospitals and health centers in the country for Bible studies and prayers for the sick.

Women and the Church

ELCTG believes in the equality of all God’s children. We therefore strive to be a means of empowerment to our members, and to help them rise to their fullest potential. We encourage and support the natural development of persons within and without our jurisdiction. We do everything in our power to help individuals and groups achieve desirable personal and group goals.

In achieving these goals we.

  • Ensure that gender, previous religious background, tribe or nationality is not used against an individual and / or group within the church.
  • Ensure that at the National, Regional, District, and Congregational levels, women receive an equal share of the benefits and responsibilities available in the church.

Where a woman is not available to fill a vacancy, a woman is identified and trained to eventually fill such a position.
